Blooming into Spring

In about a week most of us will be springing the clocks forward in anticipation of sunnier days! Spring, like fall, is a season of change. Spring sends inspiring tones of motivation, productivity and joy. There is so much to love about spring, so for this month’s post I thought I’d share all of my favorite things about springtime.  While I love many things about spring, first on the list are the flowers. What would this time of year be with out dazzling tulips and sparkling daffodils, and showstopping cherry blossoms.

Every Spring, we have a local county festival dedicated to fields upon fields of tulips. The colors and varieties are stunning. The hosts recently announced that this is the first year that they will be allowing dogs admission to the tulip fields. That’s right my well behaved 9 lbs. Shih Tzu/Pekingese mix will finally have his day in the tulip fields! I am just dreaming about the photos that will come of this wonderful adventure for Gizmo! I usually go with a regular crew including my spouse and my friend and her husband so they will be tagging along as well.

My mother used to take my sister and I there as kids to frolic in the fields and take in all that spring had to offer. As I got older, I would go with various girlfriends, and it would be a day for photography! As the festival grew over the years, so did the opportunity to buy farm stand fresh cut flowers and canned goods.  This is year I am looking forward to the beautiful blooms, all the fun of the festival and spending time with the ones I love.

Spring also holds a few delightful celebrations for me as well. Of course, there’s St. Patrick’s Day which is a fun day for us to enjoy some good old fashion corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and homemade soda bread. Then we have my dad’s birthday the day after St. Patrick’s Day, March Madness and my dearest friend’s birthday at the end of the month! Lots of celebrations happening this month and I am excited for them all!

Another thing I love to do in the spring is get outside and soak up the warm sun! My husband I make it a point to go up to deception pass on Whidbey island this time of the year for a day of exploration and lunch at a local favorite, Rocket Taco. I am currently in the process of installing some components on my new MTB (mountain bike) and waiting for my new tennis gear to come in. I enjoy tennis this time of year and look forward to playing with a some awesome girlfriends. MTB is something I do with my husband and it is a treat to be out there with him shredding the dirt! Spring is simply the best time to get out and there and hike, mountain bike and enjoy outdoor sports. My husband and I are even adventurous enough to camp in the spring! When you live in the PNW there are very little weather situations that will actually stop you from going out and doing what you love most! I just can’t wait to get out there!

Lastly, I love using spring as an opportunity to get organized and declutter! I use the Erin Condren planning system to help me stay organized and motivated to get all of my spring cleaning projects done. Spring is a great time to open up those dusty boxes in closet, attic or garage and take inventory of what you have, what you need and what you can let go of. Personally, there is a lot to gain from creating space in your environment. Whenever I go through a spring purge, I always feel emotionally lighter after as if the physical act of letting things go, supports the release of letting things go in the mind. Either way cleaning, organizing and decluttering can be a great activity to do at this time that is both good for the home and soul.

Whatever spring activities you find yourself engaged in, I hope they bring you joy, motivation and productivity. Wishing you all a fun filled floral spring!

All the best,

Mel
